Chapter VIII: Developers

Creativity and Flexible Thinking

As described in the previous chapters, all early developments were carried out by Joachim Gerhard. In intense, hours-long listening sessions, Gerhard and Wilhelm Hegener jointly evaluated the results and refined each product down to the smallest detail – the key to the unmistakable sound of Audio Physic loudspeakers.

Over time, the scope and complexity of development grew beyond what Gerhard could manage alone. At this stage, Bernd Theis joined the team – a creative mind and brilliant engineer who brought fresh impetus. After several formative years in research, Theis decided to shift his professional path and moved into editorial work in the mobile communications industry.

Another milestone in the history of Audio Physic was – and still is – the collaboration with Manfred Diestertich, a longtime friend of Gerhard and Hegener, whom both had known since his time as a developer at IQ.

Diestertich had already made a name for himself with his development of the PAT Triangel, which was also successfully sold at the HiFi Studio in Bestwig. After Bernd Theis left the company, Diestertich was brought on board as a developer – a stroke of luck, as would soon become clear.

Although trained as a civil engineer, Manfred Diestertich proved himself to be a virtuoso when it comes to finding extraordinary audio-technical solutions. With his unconventional mindset and his refined sense for acoustic relationships, he repeatedly succeeds in elevating the sound quality of Audio Physic products to an entirely new level. His solutions often surprise – demonstrating the immense sonic potential hidden within even the smallest details.
