Virgo III
Tradition and modernity - for nearly 30 years our VIRGO loudspeakers have been highly regarded by music lovers as well as by German and international press. They play a central role in our AUDIO PHYSIC loudspeaker family. Now it’s about time that the VIRGO III crowns this tradition.

The key requirement for a VIRGO has always been to authentically reproduce music from a cabinet with dimensions that are suitable for private homes. But low frequencies need cabinet volume, this is determined by physics. The NEW VIRGO III has a remarkably large internal volume – without the external dimensions growing automatically. This allows for a low cut-off frequency, the ideal prerequisite for reproducing the lows in a thrilling realistic manner. This is made possible thanks to elements made of modern ceramic foam. In the VIRGO III they largely replace classic absorbing materials, which as such consume a lot of space. The porous and extremely rigid ceramic plates control the sound radiated inwards particularly efficient and utmost stabilize the loudspeaker enclosure. Vibrations that quickly lead to colourations in the sound are drastically reduced.

Our designers consistently continue their fight against micro vibrations. The drivers are not bolted directly to the cabinet, but anchored securely through neoprene dowels in the enclosure. Both woofers are positioned inversely in the flanks of the VIRGO III and operate in push-push mode. This driver arrangement guarantees a uniform distribution of the mechanical forces acting on the body during operation, which thus largely neutralize one another. Midrange drivers and tweeters use the world’s unique AUDIO PHYSIC dual basket concept. The modern architecture effectively reduces resonances and leads to an inimitable pure and open sound reproduction. The VIRGO III features the new HHCM mid-range drivers and HHCT tweeters of the third-generation – hence the assigned name VIRGO III – which are also used in our AVANTERA III model.

To keep signal paths short, the crossover was split into three units and physically assigned to each driver section. Many of the high-quality components used derive from AUDIO PHYSIC’s top-model CARDEAS 30 LJE. The crossovers as well as the terminal plate, which comes equipped with the exquisite WBT nextgen™ pole terminals, are mechanically decoupled from the enclosure for perfect signal fidelity.

The interplay of all the elements is truly more than the sum of the individual parts – this you can hear and it will captivate you from the first beat. As it ever has been, the VIRGO III also today presents itself as the torchbearer of highest musicality. It stands out from the crowd in sound, technology, workmanship and design – this is true VIRGO family tradition.

Push-Push Configuration
The side-mounted woofers in our 3-way and 31/2-way speakers are arranged in a Push-Push configuration in which the forces exerted on the cabinet by the two woofers cancel each other out, avoiding the introduction of vibrations that could harm sound quality.

Dual Basket Design
AUDIO PHYSIC’S unique DUAL BASKET DESIGN is a true break-through innovation and the most important part of the HHCM-III technology. Instead of the tradition single basket, our HHCM-III features two separate baskets to prevent and subdue unwanted vibrations already at the source.

Ceramic Foam Bracing
Ceramic Foam is a high-tech material used for internal bracing in many of our speakers. It is much stiffer than MDF although it consists of 85% air. This means, the room taken up by the internal bracing is also part of the effective volume of air the drivers need to work. By using Ceramic Foam, we can build loudspeakers that match and out-perform much bulkier speakers.

Honeycomb Sandwich Board
Very rigid material with an internal honeycomb structure, first used in our state-of-the-art STRUCTURE. It is very light and a lot better in avoiding unwanted vibrations and resonances than the commonly used MDF.

Active Cone Damping
ACTIVE CONE DAMPING is a unique design to reduce resonances in metal diaphragms, developed exclusively by AUDIO PHYSIC.

Bi-Wiring/Bi-Amping optional
Most our speakers have a regular single-wiring terminal to avoid unnecessary metal or wire bridges that would harm sound quality when used in single-wiring configuration (Which is what most Hi-Fi fans actually use). However, an optional Bi-Wiring/Bi-Amping Terminal can usually be ordered with any new speaker. Retrofitting only on special request.


CCAC – Ceramic Coated Aluminium Cone
By coating a conical aluminium diaphragm with a special ceramic material, AUDIO PHYSIC creates a diaphragm that is at the same time very light as well as extremely rigid. When used together with ACTIVE CONE DAMPING technology the cone diaphragm is virtually immune against any partial oscillations that would otherwise impair the sound.

VCF – Vibration Control Feet optional
The best feet for our – and other – speakers. VCF provide a substantial improvement of sound performance by reducing transfer of unwanted vibrations while at the same time protecting delicate surfaces. Also available as VCF Component for Hi-Fi separates and as VCF Cable Supports.

Unwanted vibrations have negative effects on sound quality wherever they occur in the signal path. Because AUDIO PHYSIC has made it their mission to fight unwanted vibration and resonance whenever and wherever they occur, the fully decoupled VIBRATION CONTROL TERMINAL (VCT) has been devised.

3-Way Design
The 3-way speaker features three different drivers that share reproduction of the entire frequency range. One or more woofers, a midrange driver and a tweeter. Usually the crossover frequency between low and mid frequencies is set between 150Hz and 300Hz, and between 2,000Hz and 3,000Hz for the transition from the midrange to the tweeter.
